Anatomy of a Rebrand

Anatomy of a Rebrand

In under 2 weeks, we’ll officially reveal the new name for the business and the podcast. And today, I’ll be diving into all things rebranding.

Are you ready?

With the upcoming rebrand, we’ve had lots of questions about the process, especially from Alumni of my In a Weekend Classes and Members of The League of Extraordinary Podcasts™ – a monthly membership for graduates of Podcast in a Weekend™ wanting to take their podcast game to the next level. wanted me to track all the things included in a rebrand.

In this episode, I share the elements included in rebranding in case you ever want or need to rebrand your business, a program, service, podcast, or just about anything else.

So let’s dive in.

If you’re considering a rebrand, here are some questions to ask of yourself and your team if you have one.

I do want you to know as you dive into this episode that the questions and items I list aren’t exhaustive. I’ve included the most relevant and what I consider some of the most important things you’ll need when it comes to rebranding. In my 20 years as an entrepreneur, I’ve rebranded a handful of times.

Questions to ask when you’re considering a rebrand:

  1. Does a rebrand make sense?
If you’re changing your products or services in a significant way, a rebrand may make sense for you.
  2. Why rebrand?
For us, we have 2 main reasons for the podcast:
    (1) To better serve our current and future clients and students by helping them turn their awesomeness into assets and (2) Clarity. For us, the rebrand also means explaining what we do in a more tangible way without having to give lots of explanation. For example, the podcast is currently titled, In a Weekend. While it makes complete sense to students in our classes, most people outside that circle often ask what the phrase means which requires far too much time to explain.
  3. What do I need for a rebrand?

You’ll need 2 categories of assets for rebranding

  1. Business Essentials [behind the scenes]
    • Website – will you build a new one or use the same?
    • Social media handles – are the names available across platforms?
    • Tagline – what’s your punchy one-liner?
    • Trademarks – do you need one or is your infringing on someone else’s?
    • Mission & Objectives
    • Philosophy or guiding principles
  2. Visual [outward appearance]
    • Colors
    • Fonts
    • Logos
    • Template graphics for social, website, print, etc

When most people think about rebranding, they think in terms of just the visual elements. I’m here to say that rebranding isn’t for the faint of heart. As someone that’s gone through multiple rebrands in my 20 years of business, I can say that it’s a lot of work AND it’s absolutely worthwhile if done for the right reasons.

And now, I want to share with you one of the new things the rebrand brings with it.

On February 17, we’re kicking off the

5-day Kickstart Your Book™ Challenge.

[0:00] In less than two weeks, we'll officially reveal the new name for the business and the podcast. And today are you diving into all things rebranding. Are you ready?

[0:12] Welcome to episode number 258 of the In a Weekend Podcast entitled, Anatomy of a Rebrand. With less than two weeks till the rebrand launches, I wanted to share the elements included in rebranding in case you ever want to or need to rebrand your business, a program, a service, a podcast or just about anything else.

[0:38] In fact, alumni from my In a Weekend Classes and members of the League of Extraordinary podcasters, for graduates of Podcast in a Weekend that want to take their podcast to an even higher level, wanted me to track all the things included in the rebrand so they could tap into that when an If they needed to do the same, so let's dive in.

[1:04] If you're considering a rebrand, here are some questions to ask yourself and your team if you have one. I do want you to know as we dive into this episode, that the questions and items I list aren't exhaustive. I've included the most relevant and what I consider some of the most important things you'll need when it comes to rebranding. Because let's face it, if I went into every single detail, we'd probably be here for hours, and I know you don't have time for that.

[1:35] Question number one. Does a rebrand Make sense? If you're changing your products or services in a significant way, a rebrand may make sense for you. And for us. That was part of the reason we chose to go through with the rebrand.

[1:53] Number two, why are you rebranding? For us? We're rebranding for two main reasons, the first of which is to better serve our current and future clients and students by helping them turn their awesomeness into asset for their business. And number two, for us the rebrand also means explaining what we do in a more tangible way without having to give a lot of explanation. For example, the podcast is currently titled in a weekend. While it makes complete sense to the students in our classes, along with our alumni, most people outside of that circle often ask the question, well, what the heck does no weekend mean? anyway? So this rebrand is really to clarify what it is that we do in a quick and easy way.

[2:47] When you're rebranding, here's the third question you want to ask? What do I need for a rebrand? And this is the part where I'm going to give you sort of very simple things to worry about. There are so many more, like I said. We don't have enough time in this episode or in the next week for me to dive into all the details, I want to make sure that you're aware of some of the big things you need to focus on when and if you're considering a rebrand.

[3:15] Here's what you need, you actually need two different categories of assets, I'll call them. and everything will be listed out for you so you can look at it in a visual way on today's show notes at YongPratt.com/258.

[3:30] The first is Business Essentials. And these are the behind the scenes things that you need to consider the things that are outwardly facing however, your team needs to work on them before the rebrand hits.

[3:44] And these things include your website. Will you build a new one, or use your existing one and just redirect people to a new domain name for instance?

[3:56] Number two: Social media handles. Are the names that you're considering available across the different platforms you want to be on for your business.

[4:07] Number three, what's your tagline? What's your punchy one liner for your new business or new program?

[4:16] Number Four: trademarks. Do you need to trademark your business name or programs within your business? Or are you infringing on someone else's? This is a topic that I've been thinking a lot about in this rebrand. I want to make sure that I'm not using someone else's name or something that's been trademark. So I've been doing a lot of research and in fact invested in a program to help me with the trademarks because as we lean into this new name, this new rebrand, I want to make sure that I'm just setting myself up and the business up for success.

[4:50] Next, you want to think about the mission and your objectives. And yes, they are different things. If you aren't sure of the differences, you can certainly Google them. People have differences of opinion, when it comes to mission and objective, I see them as two separate things. So do you have a statement? That is the overarching reason for your business? And what things do you want to accomplish in your business? Those are your mission and objectives.

[5:15] And lastly, you want to consider your philosophy or your guiding principles, or what are the standards or what are the beliefs that are going to help your company move forward together, especially as you grow, and you bring on a team? Are there some philosophies you want your employees to embody going forward?

[5:36] So that covers the businesses and shows or the sort of the behind the scenes things that are kind of big things you want to plan out for and you certainly want to budget for because some of these things, you'll definitely want to enlist some professional help for things like building websites or getting your social media handles in order because if that is not your skill set, I'll be the first to admit that it's hard to let those things go. But sometimes you just need help to grow and to get to that next level. And if you need help with any of these things, please feel free to reach out on Facebook, send me a message or send me a DM on Instagram and ask away because I really want you to get a good sense of what a rebrand entails.

[6:18] And then of course, part two of this is the thing that most people associate with a rebrand things like the colors. What fonts are you going to use? Are you going to create a new logo? Who's going to create that logo?

[6:31] What about creating templates for social media graphics for your website, or for print because having to start over from scratch is really a drag. Save yourself some time, energy and money by having some templates you can use out of the gate as soon as your rebrand hits the airwaves.

[6:49] So there we have it, my friends. Those are the things to really think about. Let's do a quick recap of the questions you need to ask and the things you need to consider to make your rebrand real work for you.

[7:0] Question number one, does a rebrand Make sense?

[7:05] Question number two, why are we rebranding?

[7:09] Question number three, what do I need for our rebrand?

[7:13] You need all those Business Essentials that I listened previously in this episode, as well as the visual components.

[7:19] When most people think about rebranding, they think in terms of just the visual elements, but I'm here to say that rebranding isn't for the faint of heart.

[7:27] As someone that's gone through multiple rebrand and 20 years of business, I can honestly say it's a lot of work, and it's absolutely worthwhile, if done for the right reasons. And now I want to share with you one of the new things that is coming with this rebrand.

[7:45] On February 17, the new rebrand is officially being launched, and we're going to kick off the occasion with a 5-day Kickstart Your Book™ challenge. You can save your seat for their free challenge at www.kickstartyourbook.com. During this nonfiction book writing challenge, Callie Metler-Smith, who is owner of Clearfork Media and Clearfork Publishing and I, will give you daily guidance and inspire action to extract the book you already have inside. Let's face it. As a business owner, you've already created a ton of content. But did you know that you can turn those blogs, videos or podcasts into a book for your business? This is exactly the strategy that I use to launch my first book.

[8:37] Callie and I are going to show you the quickest and easiest ways to create your book. And if you want to start a new book from scratch, we'll definitely guide you through those steps as well. This challenge like the rebrand is all about you, helping you tap into the knowledge, talents and experiences that you have and turning them into a non fiction book and fast. If you're ready to unleash your superpowers in a big way in 2020 let Callie and I help you with this Kickstart Your Book™ 5-day challenge.

[9:13] And if you know friends that have been talking about writing a book, or someone who you think should write a book, please feel free to share this website with them. kickstart your book.com because the more the merrier. Sally and I are looking forward to helping you unleash your awesome with a book in 2020. The first step you need to take is to save your seat for the challenge at www.kickstartyourbook.com. [0:00] In just over two weeks, the official rebrand of the podcast and business becomes a reality. When that happens, we have so much in store to help you discover and then share all that makes you awesome in really big ways.

[0:14] This rebrand brings a brand new look and more importantly, it brings some exciting new opportunities, classes and service options, helping you get your message out to more people to increase your impact.

[0:29] Welcome to episode number 257 of the In a Weekend Podcast. I'm your host Yong Pratt and in today's very short episode, I'm excited to give you a bit of a sneak peek into what's coming your way with the rebrand which launches on my birthday, February 17.

[0:48] This episode will definitely make much more sense if you've already listened to Episodes 254, 255, and 256. In those episodes, we dove into superpowers, what they are, how to find them, and how to share them with the world. I'll be sure to link up all those episodes in today's show notes at YongPratt.com/257.

[1:13] This rebrand is focused on helping you to discover and unleash your unique superpowers and share them in real and tangible ways by amplifying all that makes you awesome in simple, systematic and actionable ways will help you build the business of your dreams. Here's what the rebrand means for you.

[1:37] Number one: Podcasting won't be the sole focus of this podcast or the business will be focusing on a handful of ways for you to share your awesome self with the world. ways in which I've spent the last three years helping clients create including blogs, videos, books and podcasts. The best part is that will focus on repurposing the content you're already created. No more struggling to create more content. It's time to get off the content-creation hamster wheel, my friends. We're going to help take your best stuff and turn it into multiple assets, all while saving you time and money and who doesn't love that?

[2:19] Number two: We have new opportunities for you to learn with us. With the expanded focus on different ways to share your awesome with the world, you better believe that we're creating new classes and opportunities for you to learn how to do just that. In fact, next week, I'm going to be sharing your brand new challenge to help you kickstart 2020 and share your aweome - fast! And what I mean fast I mean in just five days.

[2:50] Number three: Done-for-you and done-with-you services. This is an area we've been really focused on in this past year rather quietly. We set out to provide services to a select few smart, busy business owners just like you. We set out to determine whether or not these types of services were actually needed, and whether we could offer these services in a streamlined and systematized way.

[3:19] The ultimate goal in offering and building out these services was to pass off the work to my own teenage daughters, my own young creators. Both have already worked for other business owners offering an array of services like blog management, podcast, management, and graphic design. One of the things I adore most about being a business owner is the ability to be a good steward for entrepreneurship to my daughters. I want them to know that when it comes to work, they don't have to be employees if they don't want to. They get to choose if they want to create their own businesses that serve others, using their own superpowers.

[4:02] As we open up the services to the public in 2020. Please know that when you hire us for these done for you services in particular, you'll not only be getting the support you need to grow your business, you'll also be supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs. This entire rebrand encompasses the superpowers and me and my team. And we're going to be focused on helping you to discover and unleash your superpowers so that you can share and amplify all that makes you awesome. I'd love to know what services you're looking forward to most with this rebrand, head over to YongPratt.com/257 and let me know. Until then, go out there, shine a light on your superpowers and have an amazing day. Cheers.
