Crafting Energy Hygiene Rituals That Work For You

Do you have daily rituals in place to improve the quality of your well-being?

We are, after all, human BEings, yet we operate so often as human DOings.

Well-being (noun) is defined as the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.

Yet, societally, familialy, and even culturally, taking care of our well-being is often perceived as being selfish, shameful, or a cause for guilt.

When we take the time to engage in activities daily that improve the quality of our well-being, the results are numerous.

In Case You’re New Here…

Welcome! If we haven’t met yet or we haven’t connected in a while, I’m Yong Pratt.

I’m an Embodied Business Guide here at Illuminating You Productions.

Here at Illuminating You Productions, we help you to step into the spotlight of the life you know you’re meant to live.

You know the one…

That big, beautiful life you dreamed about as a kid.

Somewhere along the journey of growing up, you got sidetracked and without realizing it, stepped into a supporting role in your own life.

I see you.

I’ve been where you are.

I’m here to support you in stepping back into yourself, into that leading role of your life – into your spotlight, in the most aligned and authentic way possible.

Why Energy Rituals?

💚 When we feel happier and healthier, we tend to love ourselves more, which in turn increases the love we can bestow on others.

💚 When we feel happier and healthier, we tend to value ourselves (our worth) more, which in turn increases our capacity to serve at a higher level.

💚 When we feel happier and healthier, we tend to stand more firmly in our truth, which in turn increases our capacity to live from a place of alignment.

So why then, do we tend to avoid the things that will make us happier and healthier?

Because it’s easy Not to…

This week, we’re diving into crafting simple daily rituals to improve the quality of your well-being using the energy hygiene practices we’ve been exploring for the last several weeks.

I’m here to support you in stepping back into yourself, into that leading role of your life – into your spotlight, in the most aligned and authentic way possible.

What would your life look like if…

you made the choice to intentionally craft energy hygiene rituals that work for you?

For me, my life would look…

🦋 much more peaceful and organized

🦋 I would take more regular breaks during my day to focus on self-care and relaxation, thereby reducing stress levels.

🦋 I would also be more mindful of how my thoughts and emotions are impacting the environment around me, and actively work to keep negative energies at bay.

🦋 Additionally, I would be better able to recognize when it’s time to put down my phone or laptop and disconnect from technology in order to recharge and restore balance.

By taking these steps, I believe that my life would become much calmer, healthier, and energized.

It’s easy to forget

Many of us forget about or neglect tending to our energetic hygiene, and yet it is so vitally important for maintaining balance and wellbeing. Our energetic hygiene involves practices such as grounding ourselves, shielding ourselves from negative energy, setting boundaries with others, expressing our emotions healthily, and clearing out any stagnant energy. When we don’t take the time to tend to our energetic hygiene on a regular basis, we can become unbalanced and overwhelmed by negative emotions or energies. Allowing ourselves the time and space to practice good energetic hygiene can help us keep our energy levels steady and balanced.

Daily energy hygiene rituals can help promote greater well-being because they provide an opportunity to take a pause during the day and become more mindful of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. These rituals allow us to create a space for self-reflection and inner work that can lead to increased understanding of our mental and emotional states. Additionally, by taking time out of the day to practice energy hygiene rituals such as meditation or journaling, we are able to reduce stress levels in our lives which can benefit physical health as well as mental health. Daily energy hygiene rituals can be simple but powerful tools for cultivating holistic wellbeing.

        Why is it so difficult?

Implementing new habits, even when we know they’re good for you requires you to re-evaluate our priorities and break old patterns, which isn’t always easy. Finally, it’s important to remember that establishing any new habit involves patience since it usually takes time before it becomes an ingrained part of daily life.

Finding true well-being requires more than just physical health and self-care. Energy hygiene is a practice that centers around discovering issues within the body’s subtle energy system as well as understanding our connection with the world around us.

        Crafting Your Own Rituals

Crafting your own personalized energy hygiene ritual can be very beneficial. It allows you to create a practice that is tailored specifically to your needs and preferences, allowing you to get the most out of your time and efforts. You will better understand how energy works in your body and environment, allowing you to make changes that are effective for your personal well-being. This practice can help reduce stress and increase relaxation.

Additionally, it can help strengthen intuition and expand creativity. When done intentionally, creating an energy hygiene ritual can bring balance, harmony and peace into our lives and create a space where we feel safe letting go of anything that no longer serves us. This process can also be used to energize us with positive intentions for our highest potential.

Rituals differ from habits or routines in that they are usually more meaningful, intentional and often have a spiritual significance. The most important factor is finding an activity or several that feel good and work FOR you.

This practice is NOT about creating more work for it. It’s about creating space in your body for being more you and letting go of any energy or feelings that don’t belong to you.

          My Personal Energy Hygiene Routine

As I learn to trust my body and intuition more, my daily routine varies, yet includes any or all of the following practices. I know that for me, if I don’t do at least some of these before beginning any creative work, I don’t always get around to them, which can leave me feeling frustrated and unfocused.

Try these practices on to see how they feel to you. If not, choose something else that works for you and your energy. After all, crafting these rituals is about YOU and feeling more yourself.

              A Disclaimer

Before we dive into the technique, I want to clarify that I am not a medical doctor and can offer no diagnoses. What I’m sharing with you today is not a substitute for medical care. If you have a current medical condition, please consult your medical doctor.

Now that we’re done with all the housekeeping, let’s dive in and answer the question…

              What is tapping?

Simply put, tapping is a stress reduction tool. And who couldn’t use that???

This technique makes use of the meridians or energy channels in the body.

These are the same channels that are used when you visit an acupuncturist.

Meridians run throughout the body and each regulates different areas of the body.

When we tap along these meridians on the points I’ll show you in a few minutes, we’re helping our bodies to release stuck energy. Releasing stuck energy can help us reduce stress.

If you’re a bit of a science nerd like me, there’s a ton of clinical research that substantiates the efficacy of tapping within diverse populations including Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I’d be happy to share with you where you can find these studies if you’re interested.

              Tapping Points

When you tap, you’ll use the tips of your fingers to tap on various points on the body.

Please note that different practitioners may use fewer or more points than are listed below. I am sharing the tapping technique I gained through certification in the Quantum Alignment System by my mentor, Karen Curry Parker.

collarbone tapping point - emotional freedom technique

              Under arm (bra line)

Once you’ve tapped on each location in succession, you’ve completed one round of tapping.

Now that you know WHERE on your body you’re going to tap, let’s talk about the actual technique.

                A Tapping Example

The easiest way to explain the tapping process is to guide you through an example.

Let’s say you’re at work and you start feeling emotions bubble up inside of you. All of a sudden, you feel yourself getting angry and aren’t sure why.

This anger can manifest in many ways…

–> You may be short with your co-workers

                –> You could lose focus

–> You find yourself not being able to complete your tasks or you start making mistakes

                What to do…

If you’re able, remove yourself from that physical location. Getting out of the aura, aka the energy of other people is a great first step. You may also find you’re more comfortable tapping in the absence of others, especially in the beginning.

Now that we have a scenario, and you know the tapping points, I’m going to walk you through a basic tapping session that you can use yourself.

                A Basic Tapping Recipe

Step 1: Take a SUDS Score

Before you begin tapping, you’ll want to take an assessment of your emotional state using the Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS Score).

On a scale of 0-10, how intense is the emotion you’re feeling, 0 being no intensity, 10 being extremely intense?

We’ll start the round by tapping on the side of your hand, the karate-chop point with something called a

                Step 2: Set Up Phrase:

The set up phrase is repeated 3x while tapping on the karate chop point. If you’re alone, I’d recommend saying the phrase out loud.

                It goes like this…

Even though I’m feeling, experiencing, etc, and I don’t know why, etc.

And ends with the affirmation…I deeply and completely love and accept myself

                Step 3: Reminder Phrase

Then you’ll tap through the points using something called a Reminder Phrase.

It’s an abbreviated version or words taken from or related to the set-up phrase.

In this case…all this anger, I don’t know why I’m feeling this anger, I want to let it go, is this anger mine, this anger

Once you’ve tapped through all the points (one round) you’ll move onto

Step 4: Reassess the SUD Score

                Step 5: Repeat as necessary

In an ideal world, you’d repeat until your SUD score is 0. In reality, you may not have the time to reach 0, especially if the emotion is tied to a bigger story, belief, or challenge that you’ve been carrying for a long time.

As your SUD score decreases, your cortisol, the stress hormone, levels will also decrease.

                Why Focus on the “negative?”

Before we do a full round, I want to address a common question or misconception that comes up often.

Why are we focusing on the negative with our reminder phrases?

This is what I first thought when I learned EFT. It went against everything I had heard especially, the idea that your thoughts create your reality. In this case of tapping, we’re focusing on what IS. We’re not to anchor in the negative. We want to acknowledge what we’re feeling.

When it comes to facing our emotions and our moods, most of us are walking around in the dark. We have our hands outstretched like zombies, bumping into things, stepping on things, tripping, and getting turned around.

As we say our reminder phrases as we tap, what we’re doing is turning the light on our emotions or challenges.

We’re observing them from different angles.

It’s no different than anything else in life

For example, if you want to paint a room, you need to assess the reality to transform the space and you need to do it with the lights on…

–> What type of walls or coverings are there?

–> Are there rough spots or holes that need to be fixed before painting?

–> Are there edges you want to preserve?

–> How are you planning on doing that?

We’re not judging the space only taking stock of what’s there so we can make the necessary changes.

And that’s what the reminder phrases do.

Once you’ve reduced your SUD score, you’ll then want to anchor in new, positive statements before concluding the session.

                Now it’s YOUR turn

I invite you to give tapping a try! Follow along with the video and let me know what you think. If you have questions, please feel free to leave me a comment or question 👇
