I've been embarrassed to share some of my life-defining failures that I've only ever admitted to myself. And that stops today because since February of this year, I've been on an amazing adventure, discovering more about myself than I ever thought possible. And I'll be revealing my revelations and a-has along the way.

You see, I'm really on a quest to build this business based around me...all of me. I know for some of you listening, you may seem like that's an obvious statement to say. Build a business around you, the business owner. Even if it sounds obvious, I've found that in reality, it's been much harder to do.

So let's dive into a story that begins 20 years ago by repeating what I said in the intro. May I have your attention, please, will the real you please stand up?

Back in the days of running my Performing Arts Studio, I had the idea that my personal life along with my quirks and my weirdness needed to be sheltered from my business life. This was the way my mentor ran his business and I thought well if it's good enough for him, because he ran a multi million dollar multi-location Performing Arts Empire, then it must be good enough for me.

Here's something you should know about me. I'm a really good student and I follow direction well, especially in subjects at which I am not a natural, like running a successful business. So I emulated what was being taught and modeled. I had systems in place to shelter my name as the owner of the business from information seekers. My admin staff were instructed to say the business was privately held, and that people who asked for the name of my owner would never discover who I really was.

It even got to the point that many of my newer families in the business didn't even know I was the owner. I could literally walk up to them strike up a conversation in the lobby or at a performance, and they would literally look at me quizzically asking who I was this.

I thought was what a successful business look like. And this is how I ran my business for many years. The business wasn't well-oiled machine with hundreds of systems in place. And it ran so well, in fact, that I left for an entire month during my busiest time of the season, and the business was thriving without me.

I had a staff of 20 plus and we were serving several hundred families each and every week. I taught only a few classes each week and spent the rest of my time focusing on projects like investing in real estate, and going back to graduate school. And this is how my business ran for years...until some of my more, I'll call them more vocal staff, started questioning the absence of me in my business.

It turns out that by creating a business devoid of me and my fun and quirky personality, I begin losing my unique position in the marketplace. The business I spent decades crafting, molding and extricating myself from strategically was becoming a commodity. So much so that what we offered, quote unquote, looked the same as all the others centers popping up around town. And even though we had the most well trained and qualified staff, the most variety of classes, a gorgeous facility with top notch flooring and equipment, people began exiting. A slow trickle at first, and then we experienced what I refer to as the mass exodus.

And all this came about because I was afraid to let the real me shine through in my business. I was afraid that my perceived flaws or shortcomings would drive people away or worse, they would judge me. I was afraid that if people knew the real me, they just wouldn't like me.

It turned out that the exact opposite was true.

The less people knew about me, the less likely they were to do business with me. One of the defining moments of that season of entrepreneurship was that I discovered I had spent nearly two decades building a business that I didn't even like in the end.

Don't get me wrong, there were absolutely things I loved about the business. I loved the families be served. I loved our philosophy. I loved the impact we were making in our community, and I loved the creative outlet that the arts provided. I just didn't love the vehicle the business was being driven in at the time.

I hosted our first co-creation session the other day. We're throwing a welcome party for new members this week. And I have so much more fun planned for all of us because when it comes to building a business, based on who we are, there's so much I want to share with you.

I've learned so much on this journey. I am tired of hiding it. Tired of hiding behind my failures or my perceived failures. Because now I know that all those failures and challenges were put there for a reason. Just like those same obstacles may have been put in your way as well.

As I have leaned into discovering my Human Design, which I'll be sharing more about in upcoming episodes, I have learned that I'm here for a unique purpose. There's a reason why I was placed on this planet at this time. And the more I learn about myself and discover the subtle nuances of my design, the more I understand why I spent all those years struggling, trying to build this business based on other people's models, other people's ideals, and why it never felt quite right.

In the coming weeks. I'm gonna be sharing more of this journey because I am loving the fact that I feel so confident uncomfortable in my skin, which is crazy because I've been on this planet for more than four decades now. And it's not until now that I'm starting to really feel like me, the real me. And I feel like you listening to this podcast and hearing this journey may inspire you to tap into the hidden new.

I'm currently reading a book by Todd Herman called the Alter Ego Effect. It's fascinating how great athletes and great performers of our time have created these alter egos to do things like take to different fields of play, to show up online in bigger ways. And what they discovered at the end was in reality, their Alter Ego, was their everyday selves. And the real them was being able to shine through on their fields of play.

So, my friends, I have so much to share with you on this journey to building this incredible business based on you. Based around your gifts. Based around your unique talents. Based around your experiences and your expertise. You all have things inside of you that you love that you may have been keeping hidden. And today, I invite you to dig deep. Dive in. Explore those things. Explore those dreams you had, even as a child and see how you can extract them and use those in your business.

Because I have to tell you that building this business now that I have, presently, it's so joyful. And this is gonna sound really crazy that I'm gonna say this, but I'm gonna say it because it just is true. It feels so easy. Now, I know society says that, if something is easy, then it must not be worth pursuing. But I have to tell you, finding this alignment, finding this ease, finding this joy has literally in the past couple of weeks, opened so many doors.

With that, my friends, I'm going to wrap up this episode. It's a little bit shorter than the ones we've done in the past, but I really want to give you these little bite-sized nuggets to take away. So my challenge for you today is to think about all the different quirks you may have. And don't think of quirks as bad things. Don't think of things that are weird as as bad things. Think of them as your unique selling propositions, right? These are the things and the reasons why people choose to come to you versus somebody else who could be offering the same exact services or products. And I know that sounds also a little bit counterintuitive. But hear this...

So let's dive in to this Roundup, shall we? Now, I don't know why I haven't done a lot of these roundup episodes. But as I was getting ready to sit and create this podcast for you, I thought, you know, it would be really helpful for my listeners - for all of you - to have a central episode or a central place where you could get a list of all of the best episodes regarding content repurposing in your business. So that's where this roundup episode came from.

And again, now that we're kind of going into fall, and we're into that back to school season, even though it may look a little bit different than in years past, right? I know for sure it does here. School is delayed actually, for a few more weeks. We don't actually start until after Labor Day and it's all going to be virtual for at least the first nine weeks. So that's something new for us.

Aside from that, I love it this time of year, because there's just so much new energy with the new season, the new moon, everything that's happening astrologically and cosmically, if you believe in such things. There's just a lot going on. And I feel like there's lots of different kinds of energy around this time of year. So I figured this was a really perfect time to do a roundup something different than our norm. And I think it's good for me to challenge myself as well as a business owner as a podcaster. To do things in a different way. See things in a new light because at this time of the year.

What I love to do is kind of take a step back. I like to slow down and kind of look at my business. And I want to take an inventory of a few things. The first thing I want to take an inventory of is: (1) What have I accomplished so far in 2020? And I know for most of us, if you're anything like me, you probably do this as well. You've accomplished a lot that throughout the year, yet you kind of forget all the things that you've accomplished. So take a few moments today and think about all the things maybe you've launched the new things, you've created a new freebie, a new course, a new email series, whatever it is, I know you've created some awesomeness. And I want you to celebrate that today because we so often forget to celebrate what we've already accomplished. So that's the first thing I like to take inventory of around the back to school time.

The second thing I like to take inventory of is well now we have four months left of the year. (2) What else do I want to accomplish? Are there some goals I'm still working on? Is there something new that I want to accomplish by the end of the year? Whatever it is, take some time again today and think about those things. What do you want to accomplish in the next four months?

And number three (this is my favorite of the three of them) is what content have you already created, that you can now repurpose? Because repurposing is so powerful, it is so important for your business because as a business owner, you're already wearing a lot of hats. And if you are creating content in the form of a blog post in the form of books, videos, podcasts or graphics, you're spending a lot of time in that creation mode. But we so often forget to reshare and repurpose what we've already created because it's likely and I can say this with almost 100% certainty that every person listening to today's episode is sitting on a veritable gold mine of content stored somewhere, digitally. It could be a place like Dropbox or Google Drive or another online storage place where everything that you create throughout the year gets stored there.

For me, I like to create my podcast episodes, my blog posts. I like to start them in Google Drive in a document I like to write things out. I like to get my thoughts on paper. And then I like to go and make videos and make audios from that. Right? I know that I'm going to repurpose things and because I have a system for doing that, it makes it really easy. But taking an inventory is just really an important step to move forward. We have to know where we've been and where we're going in order to get there. And again, this step is super easy to really say, you know what, I'm just going to keep plowing forward. And that's cool, too. Now number three, taking inventory of your content is really important, like I said, because you're sitting on a goldmine of content. So let's talk about the different ways you can repurpose your content. And I'm going to point you in the direction of some episodes that are going to help you learn about certain things or take action on certain things.

Let's dive in with the first topic. If you are new to content creation or content repurposing, or you just want to refresher and kind of understand how content creation is important to your business, I have four episodes for you to take a listen to.

Number 267 is called "Your Content Runneth Over" and it's about this idea that you already have so much content. And it's like when you go to a wedding and you see that champagne fountain. They're taking one bottle of champagne and pouring it into the top glass. And from there, it trickles down to all the other layers. And that is exactly how I want you to see your content. Your cup literally is running over with content. So that's number 267.

The next episode I have for you is number 268. This is the question I asked my students a lot and this is what I dive into with them when we work one on one. And the episode is called, "Does your content need CPR? And again, here's another little hint: more than likely your content could use a little bit of CPR, right? CPR is all about reviving and resuscitating and sometimes we need to pull our content out of our content graveyard and breathe new life into it so that more of the right people can find us with our content.

Next, I have episode number 284. And this episode is called, "Content, content repurposing, and your business. And I really dive into what content is, what its role is, what it's supposed to do in your business. I dive into content repurposing and what it is and why repurposing your content is so valuable in your business, no matter whether you're a product based business or a service based business. Content repurposing is is the lifeblood of your business. And without it, yes, you can survive. However, when you put this machine into action, in this machine being content repurposing, it really brings more new life into your business and brings new people to you. So we definitely want new people to always be finding us and we also want to be nurturing of people who've already found us and already like us, and give them more of this the great content you're already creating. So that's Episode 284.

Next we have number 291. And this episode is called, "Three easy ways to start repurposing your content today." Now, if you have followed along on this podcast for any length of time, you know how much I like easy and simple. They seem counterintuitive in this day and age when everything is so fast paced. But I like when things are simple and easy because I spent way too long being the person that would complicate everything. I would create these elaborate funnels. These elaborate email sequences with if then things so if somebody did this, this would happen. And you know what? At the end of the day, it was so hard to keep track of all those things because there was so much complication, and on the receiving end for anyone getting my information was also too much because there were so many steps to have to follow. So when I started to embrace easy and simple and even using the word lazy to describe the way I am as an entrepreneur, it felt so much better. It felt more freeing. It felt light. So on episode 291, you have 3 easy ways to repurpose your content and ways you can start to do that today.

Now, for everyone who is an author, a blogger, a podcaster, and a video creator, I'm going to point you in the direction of an episode that is specific for the type of content you're creating. Are you ready?

If you are an author and you've published books, whether you've self published or had a publisher put them on different marketplaces, you'll definitely want to jump into episode number 290. In that episode, I break out five ways to get more readers for your books. The more readers you get the more books you can sell, the more income you're going to make in your business and the more resources you'll have to create that next book. Now, if you're an author, you can also listen to the blogger section and vice versa. There's just really great ways in those two episodes to take your written text and turn it into other forms of content.

I know some of you watching and listening, have books. Some of you have blogs. Others of you have podcasts. And others of you are creating videos. And throughout all these episodes, we've been diving into specific strategies to turn your awesome content, no matter what it is, into more assets. Because at the end of the day, the awesome content you're creating is absolutely an asset. And it can be one that you can use to market your business to attract more people. Right? The whole idea behind creating awesome content is to attract more of the people you want in your world and repel those that aren't a good fit.

And I know when I first heard this whole analogy of attract and repel, I was almost a little bit offended about repelling people because I was that person who really just didn't want to rock the boat. I wanted those those steady waters. And the idea of repelling people really just didn't sit well with me. Now that I am in this world a little deeper, more ensconced in this space of podcasting and amplifying your awesome, and helping you reach more of the right people, I completely understand. That is exactly what content does, right? Not everybody in the world is going to love us. Some people, in fact, will not like us very much at all. And that's okay, because we don't want all the people. We just want the people who love us, and respect us, and want to hang out with us, and learn from us. Right. That's who we really want to bring in to our world. With that being said, lots of people have sent in questions, saying, awesome. I really love this idea of repurposing. I want to turn my book into all these things you said. I want to turn my podcast into more things. I want to start a YouTube channel. And right now I'm doing a podcast, how do I make that happen? And the biggest question that I've gotten asked in response to all of these episodes as of late is, well, it sounds awesome. But first of all, it sounds complicated, and I just don't know where to start. So we're going to start today with talking about three steps to take whatever your content is now and turn it into more.

First of all, let's clarify content repurposing because I know there's some confusion about that word and what it actually means. In my world, content repurposing is really about transforming the content you have currently into more little nuggets of goodness that you can share on more platforms. So that's simply what content repurposing is. I have a lot of tools that I use. Alright, step number one in starting to repurpose your content today, not tomorrow, not next week, not next month. Today. It's really that simple. You could do this today. So the first step, actually, let me back up a little bit. Before we get to the first step, I wanted to explain to you that this process that I'm going to share with you this three-step process is something that I take my students and my private clients, especially through, we actually work one on one together and discuss all of these things. Where you can get my eyeballs and my expertise onto your content. And we can really dive in and make a plan because repurposing, if nothing else, is creating a plan to share your content with more awesome people.

Okay, so this whole process, this three-step process is called Content C.P.R.™ are here at Amplify Your Awesome™, we're all about helping you breathe new life into the content you already have. Right? You don't always have to go out there and create content every day. In fact, I don't recommend you do that at all. Because at some point, you're going to reach a place where you're just burnt out. You're not going to want to create content because it's just draining. Especially if you're not getting the response to the content that you're creating. It can feel a little bit disheartening to move forward and constantly create and have no one on the other side receiving that, right. So we don't want to get into what I like to call the content creation hamster wheel. It is exhausting. It causes burnout. It makes us feel like we're not doing the work we're meant to do here on this planet, right? We want to make sure that when we're creating content that we are interacting and having a dialogue with other people and making sure that our messaging is getting in front of the right people at the right time. Right.

So content CPR™, as you can see, there are three steps. We have a C. We have the P and we have the R. So a three-step process to breathe new life into the content you're already creating. Are you ready? Let's dive in.

So step number one, or the C, in this case of Content CPR™ is to curate. Now, this is the one that typically takes the most amount of time, only because the people that I normally work with - the awesome business owners like you - you're prolific content creators. You're creating a lot of good stuff, whether that's podcast episodes, whether that's blog posts, books, videos, you're out there, putting one foot in front of the other and creating this amazing content.

So the first step in understanding how to start repurposing is to Curate We need to figure out what we already have. So here's what I want you to do. Whether you do this old school on pen and paper or you use something like we use here and put it into a Google spreadsheet, you're going to go out and fetch or gather up all of the content you've put out on the internet.

It could be blog posts, links. It could be podcast links, videos, links to your YouTube channel. Whatever it is, those pieces that you have sprinkled out into the universe, you're going to go and put those in one place. And I know for lots of people, this is a big step.

Why? Because most of us create a lot of content and put it in lots of different places. So to go find those things can sometimes be a bit time consuming. However, I'm here to tell you that this piece is the most critical piece because if you've already created content about a particular topic you want to talk about, wouldn't it be awesome if If you could refer somebody back to another blog post or another podcast episode, or another video about that same topic, right. We want people to see more of our stuff. So we need to make sure we know what we already have. Alright, so that's the first part you need to curate, go out there and gather all the links for all of your awesome content. Put them all in one place, because that's the other thing as content creators, we're really good at creating. However, we're always not so great about recording and documenting where to find those things.

For instance, for a long time, I would want to send people to my podcast but every time I'd have to go Google myself and grab the link. And when I when I finally stopped and put that into a Google document or a Google spreadsheet, or even sometimes I use my Notes app, a central place that I can copy and paste because it was getting exhausting writing the same links over and over and over again. So that's something that this process will help you to create. You'll have this, this beautiful garden of content sitting in your Google Drive in your Dropbox, wherever you like to store your content for, for long term use. That's what you're going to do in this process. You're going to go out there and curate.

Once you've curated, you're probably going to find an interesting phenomenon. And that is the topics of your blog posts, or your podcasts, or your videos, or even your books are going to fall into some categories. So once you've curated all of your content, you have it all in one place.

The next step is to categorize it, right. My friend Deb LaFlamme would call these pillars in our businesses. We want to present different pillars of ourselves because we're not one tract people - we have different facets of our lives. And in order to have people get to know know, like, and trust us. If we only shared business stuff and never about our personal life, there wouldn't be that personal connection. So we need these pillars or different dynamic content topics that we can talk about. And you'll likely find that when you curate your content, all in one central location, you're going to naturally find that there are topics or pillars of content you all ready have, and that's an awesome thing. It can help us really sort of prepare for the next step in the process, which is to Prioritize.

Now, I'm a big fan in repurposing everything. However, when you're just getting started, that can seem a little bit overwhelming. So we need to prioritize and we're going to do this prioritization in a strategic manner. We're going to pull out our calendars, and we're going to take a look at what is coming up.

Do you have a book launch coming up soon? Do you have a podcast episode? Release with a really big guest coming up. Do you have blog post series or a series of blog posts that are coming up that you really want people to pay attention to? We're going to prioritize all that curated content based on what's coming next.

What are the goals? What do we want to do with our content? Do we want people to sign up for a webinar? Do we want them to subscribe to our podcast? Do we want them to go preorder that next book? Do we want them to share a blog post with somebody else? What is it what is the action we want them to do? And we want to prioritize the content we already have, based on what we have coming up in our businesses. We want to know what is coming next. And certain pieces of the content you've curated are going to be ideal for that goal that priority in your business. So that is step number two.

In the Content CPR™ process, we're going to prioritize your content that you just curated and step one, and we're going to prioritize it based on the goals of our business and what we have coming up next. Does that make sense?

So that is step number two in the Content CPR™ Framework. Next, step number three, the third part of the Content CPR™ Framework is the actual repurposing. Now to repurpose just to repurpose, because we can, is not always going to be the best strategy. So when I say repurpose, it's having a clear, concise strategy that supports the priorities that we establish in step number two, right, we want to repurpose with a strategic plan based on the priorities of our business using the content we already have. Right? We can move the CPR framework forwards and backwards, because one thing builds upon the next.

And when it comes to repurposing, start with one piece of content, don't think about all the content you've curated. And step number one, because that, my friends, often causes analysis paralysis, where we're so overwhelmed, because there's such a mass amount of information. And we think to ourselves, oh my gosh, there's so much where am I going to start? I don't have time to do this. And all of that inner chatter starts to rear its ugly head. And we want to keep that at bay. Because if you just start with one thing, life is easy. If you just focus on that one thing every day, so when it comes to repurposing from your curated content in step number one, what is one piece of content that you can start and repurpose today?

Let me give some examples of how this might look. So let's say for instance, you're a podcaster, like me. But if you're a blogger, if you create videos, these same principles apply, they may look just a little bit different on the other side. So if I want to repurpose a podcast episode, and maybe my podcast is 15 or 20 minutes, how can I get more people to listen to that podcast?

Well, one of the first things I want to do with that podcast episode is to chunk it out into bite-sized pieces. And those little bite-sized pieces, those snippets of your main content can then be sprinkled out across social media. That's a really good step. So if you have a 15 minute podcast, for instance, and let's say in 15 minutes, you have five bite-sized chunks that you can sprinkle out. Just by doing that, you've five X your content that you can share with other people. That's a big deal from one little thing.

Let me give you another example. So take that same podcast episode. We've chunked it out. We have five little snippets, little audio snippets. What if you created a graphic for each one of those snippets? Again, you have five more pieces. You started with one and now you have 10. And that probably will take you 10 or 15 minutes to go create a quick graphic in a program like Canva.

Alright, so, my friends, let's do a little recap now. So we have our Content CPR™ Framework. And in that framework, there are three steps right. And again, you can do this yourself by watching this video listening to this on the podcast. This episode will drop on Saturday on the podcast. You can also watch the replay of this live recording. We like to drip out content. So I'm showing you an example of how we share the same content in different media by repurposing it. Because at the end of this video, I'm going to have my software do what it does, it's going to turn this video into an audio. I'll then be able to share the audio to the podcast on Saturday. And then we'll create some graphics, we'll create some snippets. We'll do all of that. And it's for a very specific purpose, right? So let's talk about, let's review Content CPR™.

What are the three steps? Number one. Curate. Gather up all of your content in one central location. It's kind of like when you set out to go to the grocery store, you want to take, you want to look in your cabinets in in your fridge to see what you need, rather than trying to remember all the things you actually have in your pantry or in your fridge. It's better to take an inventory - to curate - what you have, and then fill in those gaps, right? But you want to get everything in one central location by curating your content.

Step number two, you're going to take all that content, you're going to prioritize it based on the goals you have in your business. Do you have a launch coming up? Do you have something new you're offering? Do you have a new course? Do you have a new program? Do you have a new product? How can you take the content you've already curated and make it support the next step in your business? So step two is prioritizing your content.

And that brings us of course, to the final step. And that's actually the repurposing step. And there's many ways to slice and dice this - repurpose it - again, based on your priorities, which were based on the content you already have, right? So it goes forwards and backwards in this content CPR process. Again, if you want to know the tools I use, drop the word TOOLKIT. I'll let you know where you can get that because it literally contains all the tools that I personally use, and my students use and and it's changed My life completely in what I no longer have to do, which as a business owner is a great thing when you can get to that place where there are things on your not to do list because they're not high value. They're not moving you forward. They're not making the needle jump up in your business. So if we can find tools to help us do those things that aren't going to serve us in the long run, like moving video around from place to place, that's a good day, my friends.
